Overview

The Digital Certificate is the electronic means used to uniquely identify a person on a platform or a digital system.
The best match to the certificate is an identification document (ID) or the Value Added Tax Identification Number (VATIN), which are currently used to identify a person or entity, respectively.

A Digital Certificate is Qualified when it is issued by a certifying agency of the Electronic Certification System of the State.

In accordance with Portuguese Order 701-G/2008, Article 27, all documents uploaded to electronic platforms must be electronically signed via qualified electronic signature certificates. (...) for all electronic signature effects(...) digital certificates issued by a certifying agency of the Electronic Certification System of the State must be used.
